Hongkong Airline Destroyed Guitar!

null

As the Cuba guitarist Rene Izquierdo finished his concerts and workshops in Hongkong and want to go on to Taiwan, the Hongkong Airlines didn`t allow him to take his priceless Santiago Marine guitar into the cabin. They forced him to check in this expensive instrument with the argument “otherwise you have to buy a second seat”, what is outrageous.

Finally he needed to check in the guitar with the luggage. But he has a special flight case for his instrument , so if the Hongkong Airline would take care, it shouldn`t happen anything. But the untrained personal of the Hongkong Airlines managed to destroy the flight case with the guitar inside! It looks like evil intend!

Now this Hongkong Airline only want to pay 30 Dollar as a compensation like they always doing for normal luggage.

So please my dear friends! If you play guitar, don`t use the Hongkong Airlines!!! Other Airlines normally allows you to take your guitar into the cabin. Choose only airlines who allows you to take the guitar with you into the cabin.

And please sign this petition for us guitarists. I have already signed and I hope it will have some good result. :

Airlines: Please stop treating instruments like luggage. If you make us check in the instruments, make sure that is handle properly.

FIVE SHORT STUDIES by Giuseppe Torrisi(This is a Guest Post by Dario Bitetti)

A music that was in danger of never to be heard and of remain locked in a drawer.
The Sicilian musician, Giuseppe Torrisi, twenty years ago conceived his project Five Short Studies for guitar, first he wrote the first, third and part of the second.
Recently, the great guitarist Giulio Tampalini got hold these scores and something contained in these pages hit his own sensitivity; his deep conviction that give life to those notes has prompted Torrisi to complete his original project.
Five Short Studies are born from the desire to collect, edit and communicate a musical experience acquired over the years.
Soft melancholy so dear to Agustin Barrios, impetuosity of whirling motions characterizing the pages of Heitor Villa-Lobos; from the few lines of each piece shines a
bright, clean state of mind, a brief and concise description of a feeling that is not hard to be perceived by the listener.
An emotion contained in such a short and complex musical text inevitably requires an execution that can convey that message fully, despite the many technical complexities
to be resolved with a reasonable amount of risk.
Tampalini was able to surprise, highlighting every intention of the composer: the phrasing and the communicativeness of its second and fourth study, the impetus and strength
emitted by the first and third, the great virtuosity required by the fifth are masterfully rendered by acclaimed performer on this first world recording.

It happens, sometimes, that someone notices a hidden voice, understands its emotion and has a sincere enthusiasm to give it to others.

Dario Bitetti (a dear student of M° Torrisi)

Take Five for guitar: comparison: George Benson, Chet Atkins, Igor Presnyakov and Julia Scheuffele

George Benson:

http://youtu.be/r0KOzrMUt10 – the embed version is not available for the video….-

Jazzguitar plus Band (Drums, Sax, Keyboard, Bass)
George Benson played that piece in e minor and during his improvisation he played – as usual – the blues scale in e minor, but with all extensions. He played a lot of sequenced riffs as it is usual to practice scales. Amazing is the speed he can do that! But the ground speed in this interpretation is very slow. Much slower as the Dave Brubeck Quartett played.

Chet Atkins arrangement obviously is influenced by the version of George Benson (or is it the opposite?) . Anyway this both versions have a lot of common in colour, rhythm and speed. And the key of the Atkins Version is e minor like George Benson played. I show you the interpretation of Mr.Spencer`s Chet Atkins version.

And now to the Version of Giuseppe Torrisi: this version is a technical difficult version for classical guitar. Its very near the original version of Dave Brubeck in tempo, harmonisation and feeling, but for guitar transposed into a – minor. The original is in eb minor, which is a big difference. But most of you can not hear that. Because it is for classical solo guitar, all the notes which are normally played by the band, came into the guitar version, which makes that piece more difficult. Even the improvisation part, which is not inside the arrangement, has to keep the Bassline all the time. You can find this arrangement for free on http://www.guitarfreescores.com

For my improvisation I ve got some inspiration from Igor Presnyakov, who played “Take Five” for Solo Guitar first and with his own arrangement.

the poor people, who are living in countries without youtube access can try to listen the version of George Benson and me on Tudou.com. The version of Igor Presnyakov and Chet Atkins you can not find there, really pitty for you!

Happy new year of the dragon!

the spanish week will change the time

because the chief cooker just left the restaurant, the spanish week with the guitar music of Julia will change the time: there is no spanish week from 10th to 15th of October in la Finca. The new time will be at the end of October or the beginning of November and announced as soon as possible.

Hallo to my students!

Because of some unexspected problems i have to delay my flight back to Shanghai and will arrive some days later. I am very sorry for all of you who are waiting for me! Probably we can start with the classes after the 24th of September.

As i didn’t bring my computer to Germany there is only some old video i can post today. Please keep on practice your guitar and enjoy your life! Best Regards…..

The 11th Etudes of H.V.Lobos

more than videos i like to make sound files. The main reason is, that i think music is something to listen not to watch and the second reason is the fact that youtube is not available in China and all the other hosts offer very bad sound qualitiy.

As i still have a little space on my server i load up the Etudes number 11 from Villa Lobos. This piece is also one of my students pieces in Shanghai, who always wants me to perform their pieces. Sometimes that shows more than explanations.

Listen to my mp3`s is free, because of my philosophy: what you can give to the community, you should give. The internet is a big chance for more equal rights in learning and education. It is neccessary and good for everybody, if there is such a place with free information.

Heitor Villa Lobos: Etude Nr 11

Most Important Of All: Phantasy!

Practicing with my students sometimes lets me be a little disapointed. What often happens: the younger children are learning with high motivation and big progress, but some years later if they starting with puberty, they lose their love to classical guitar and most pitty: they lose their phantasy.

May be it`s because they become too busy with school and with meeting their friends, may be it`s because they prefere to listen to the popular music of their classmates: they start to practice less and less. Only a few people are going on practicing with motivation and regularity.

The Chinese students are not better than the German and American students, but they are not as free educated and have to listen to their parents decision. So they have to continue and participate the annual examinations and sometimes participate competitions, but it is really difficult to help them, if there is not so much love for the music they have to play. They would like to play some pop songs, some finger picking style pieces, but because of their examinations they have to practice a lot of requested pieces and no time to play the music they really want to play.

To these students I would like to say: it doesn`t matter which kind of music, which piece you have to play! It only deepends on your own phantasy and imagination that every piece of music can sound very beautiful!

For example the little music from the third level of the annual guitar examination:

What a nice story! It remembers me on a Mazurka of Chopin, but it is a Mazurka of the famous guitarist J.Sagreras. This piece is often played too fast. It is very necessary to play not too fast but with expression! To get a feeling for that music you can listen to the piano Mazurkas of Frederic Chopin. Buy a CD from Horowitz oder Ashkenazy or another good pianist and listen to their interpretations of Chopin. Then you know a little more how to play your beautiful small piece from Sagreras..and you can also feel a little how to play Tarrega pieces.

Use your own phantasy and try to make your own interpretation. There are many possibilities to play that piece! Think about a story that music can tell and use that music to tell a story.

I put here one interpretation of Maria Luise. Make another one!

I am so sorry for the bad sound that tudou provides! It sounds much better on youtube!
